East Bay Office

When we established Sugarman & Cannon in 1989, Scott had recently completed more than seven years in the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office. During that time, he represented clients charged with very kind of crime, from petty theft and drunk driving, to burglary and child molestation, to capital murder. In many cases, he represented clients from their first court appearance until the end of the prosecution, whether by acquittal, plea bargain or sentencing. He developed and pursued test case or high impact litigation that would benefit scores, if not hundreds, of clients, and was asked to train young lawyers in Public Defender’s Office in the skills needed to provide quality representation to their clients. Further, during his work in that office, Scott became very familiar with the judges, prosecutors and informal procedures and rules that directly affected his clients, as he established himself as a strong advocate for those clients.

We decided we could better serve our clients who either lived, or were being prosecuted, in the East Bay, Central Valley or the Sierras by opening and maintaining an office in Oakland. Over nearly 20 years, Sugarman & Cannon has represented clients from our East Bay office in all types of criminal cases, including:

  • fraud (including business, embezzlement, credit card, and mortgage fraud)
  • murder
  • drug conspiracy, transportation, sale, and possession
  • large-scale marijuana cultivation
  • gun possession and trafficking
  • robbery
  • driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
  • domestic violence, assault and battery between individuals living together
  • child molestation and sexual assault

By maintaining an office in the East Bay, we have been able to maintain our thorough knowledge of the distinctive way in which the courts in each East Bay and Central Valley county operate and to have a more accurate understanding of the how we can best prepare our client’s defense to address unique issues that arise in each county and court.

Our Oakland office is located at 385 Grand Avenue in Suite 300, just a few blocks from the Grand Avenue exit off Highway 580 in Oakland. From this office, we can more easily represent – for our clients and ourselves — clients in the Unites States District Court in Oakland and Sacramento, as well as the Superior Courts in all neighboring counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, Santa Clara, Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Yolo, San Joaquin, Sacramento, Stanislaus and neighboring counties.
